Kickoff party is great
We’re now at the Appalachian Trail kickoff party. There was a full slate of talks today- for which we only were here for the afternoon. We had a great visit with my cousin Jack and his wife last night and this morning – even going to a lovely natural area with thousands of blooming daffodils – really more of a formal garden – but walked a good mile or two. We ate well, and the massive shot of Spring was great.
One more day of seminars, and I’ll do a final pack check tomorrow and and the final pack. Then it’s another 45 minute ride which terminated on a scary steep forest service road at a parking lot to hit the trail for good probably on Monday. This to get to the top of what was a nine mile hike Thurs. It can be a long way around in the mountains!
I say probably leaving on Monday because we’re going to closely watch the weather. Possible thunderstorms. Ric is willing to stay one more day if it calls for pouring rain all day.
