A note on the flora.
Aside from the fact that yesterday’s trail was a lot easier to hike than I expected, the most obvious difference was the forest itself. The trees are mostly without leaves, so they look the the same, except the mature trees are larger than in the Whites. There is a sparse understory of evergreen at the moment. I was pleased to see both rhododendron and mountain laurel, as well as some of the larger holly bushes I’ve seen in my life. Can’t wait for the forest floor to come alive.
